ABSTRACT

Based on the military personnel′s physical quality, the psychological quality of military personnel is the combination of psychological characters and behavioral characters, and it is developed through the subject-object interaction in military activities. The psychological quality is a prerequisite for military personnel to carry out their duty. The structural denotation of the psychological quality includes 18 elements. In order to improve the personnel′s psychological quality and to enhance the combat effectiveness of troops, the psychological intervention system in military settings consists of 4 subsystems: training of a group of professionals; psychological testing, selection of cadets, and management of psychological dossiers; psychological education and training; and crisis intervention.

ABSTRACT

The psychological quality of military personnel is an important research topic in military psychology. The present rating scale for psychological quality of military personnel consisted of 30 items, and with this scale 94 military officers of 3 different rank groups were subjected to the test. 18 items were screened out as the items concerning basic psychological quality of military personnel according to the following two criteria: (1) more than 80% of the officers selected this item; (2) the mean score of the item was more than 1.00. Analysis of the results showed that, the connotation and denotation of the psychological quality of military personnel were in a certain degree similar to that of the general definition, and they also represented some special characteristics required by military settings. This study suggested that these 18 items reflected the basic elements of structural extension of the psychological quality of military personnel.

ABSTRACT

In order to study the mental health status of military personnel under settings of special military operations, 1 263 officers and crew of a submarine base, 361 officers and crew of a naval base and 753 officers and soldiers of a missile base were subjected to SCL-90 scale evaluation. The results were compared with mililary norms and civilian norms. It was revealed that SCL-90 of all the members of three groups had higher scores on every factor compared with the eivilion norms. Besides somatic factors, the scores of other factors were also higher than that of military norms. The results suggested that certain special military operation settings could exert negative impact on the mental health status of military personnel. An analysis of the results also showed that the greatest impact was found in submarine and naval officers and crew, as well as in missile troops, indicating that highly enclosed settings could strongly influence the mental health of individuals.

To explore the effects of psychological behavior training on the physical stress level of submariners, 42 submariners were divided into two groups, namely experimental group and control group. The submariners in the former group received psychological behavior training for one week. The level of physical stress was determined after being asked to creep through water-filled torpedo launching tube before and after training. The results showed that the changes in physical stress level of subjects in the experimental group were significantly smaller than that of the control group(t=-3.421~-2.415, P

ABSTRACT

Sensitivity toward pictorial sexual information was tested implicitly in 448 servicemen from four different arm services and 86 civilians. 20 pairs of pictures containing sex information for sensitivity test were screened out in prior-experiment, and then they were exposed to the test subjects with a 500 ms duration, in order to find out the difference in the subjects' preference in selecting sexual and non-sexual information pictures. The result showed that, compared with the civilians, all the four groups of servicemen showed stronger inclination in selection of sexual information pictures, however there was no group difference or gender difference. The results also suggested that, implicit experiment with paired pictures could be one kind of reliable and effective method in studying sex information sensitivity.

ABSTRACT

To explore the theoretical basis of the heretability of servicemen's personalities and to provide references for the development of a set of scientific and effective psychological interventions, 1 306 servicemen were subjected to the 16-PF inventory questionaire and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) examination of angiotensin. The results showed that there was a significant correlation between the scores of self-will, social boldness, self-reliance, and self-restraint in the female servicemen, and the scores of self-will, boldness, self-reliance, emotional stability, and openness in the male servicemen were significantly correlated with the DD genotype of the ACE gene. The results suggested that the determination of the DD genotype of the ACE gene could be used as a useful tool in the research of heretability of personality factors.
